Like Adults, Kids Grow At Their Own Pace

One of the biggest issues our generation has had to cope with is the internet. The internet is a double-edged sword. It can be your biggest source of information but it can also become your biggest source of anxiety. That's why there's even a term called "Dr. Google" wherein people, instead of seeking professional advise, go to Google first. I myself had that knack in "reading up" and eventually scaring myself out of my wits.

Nowadays, even beyond the Google problem, we have social media to really put more pressure on each one of us parent or not. As a parent, social media can be dangerous. Seeing other babies or kids seemingly do "more" than your child is a very scary thought. Putting a lot of worry out of nothing.

But here's the thing, kids, like adults, are not perfect. They grow and learn at their own pace. Our baby for example had a hard time speaking his first words and still has a hard time eating even now. But he never had a problem doing physical activities like walking, running, or climbing stairs. While there will be kids who really excel at everything and hit every expected milestone for their age group, not every kid can do the same thing. Our kids are imperfect - they are human. Not machines or robots.

So what I'm really trying to say is simple. Relax a bit and enjoy these rare moments with your kid. You yourself, your paternal instincts, should be enough to really know when something is out of hand even without the internet at your fingertips. The simplest rule I follow is when in doubt, always seek an expert. And better to get a second opinion if you can.
